We live in a dynamic world in which nothing is permanent but change itself. Garrett Eckbo
I appreciate that quote more everyday, as I’ve found that natural and cultural change continues to be an increasingly influential part of our lives as our world becomes more populated, more cosmopolitan, and more connected than ever before. We live in a landscape of built, multivalent environments; making ecologically smart, high quality design especially relevant. Within this shifting frontier, I’m striving to actively prove that clear and strong leadership with assiduous collaboration across traditional design boundaries can foster new relationships and intelligent forms in the landscape. I want to pursue this ethic; bringing contemporary, yet culturally relevant artistic expression and environmental stability to a modern and often transient world.
My passion for history, research, and fresh design permeates my work and my life. I explore design ideas with vigor in models, sculptures, sketches, and simulations – producing evocative design responses that encourage an active physical and intellectual engagement in local idiosyncrasies. My intense curiosity allows me to cross the traditional boundaries, while respecting and learning from the expertise inherent within different disciplines.
I am trained as a historian and a landscape architect. However, my design investigations rarely cease at history or landscape for I am interested in process and form, weaving disciplines together to create narratives that inspire our lives. My hope is that this translates into freshly designed, contemporary spaces that reference local ecological and cultural history, while encouraging us to think of our lives within a greater, worldly context.
If I can design landscapes, places, and objects that truly engage us in our lives: to laugh, to share, to learn, and to play; then I have satisfied a personal agenda and passion.
